On April 3, the Ordos Municipal Bureau of Science and Technology unveiled the 2023 list of key projects of Ordos City’s “Invigorating Inner Mongolia with Science and Technology” campaign. The “carbon fixation potential regulating technology development and demonstration for the open-pit mine multilayered ecosystem in the Yellow River Basin” launched by Zhunge’er Energy Group under CHN Energy made the list as the company’s first sci-tech research project approved by Ordos.
The project aims to improve the carbon fixation efficiency of the typical forest-farmland-tree-grassland-pasture multilayered ecosystem in the open-pit mining areas of Ordos. Through comprehensive surveys and fieldwork analysis, the project has developed high-efficiency carbon fixation technologies such as effective coordination between vegetation expansion and carbon fixation, optimized path for multilayered ecosystem coordinated governance, and carbon sinkage construction of green mines. It has also built an economy-energy-environment integrated system carbon emissions assessment model for the Yellow River Basin and carried out research on mining area ecosystem restoration, carbon sinkage coordinated evaluation and implementation path. Besides, it has promoted the application of new energy photovoltaic low-carbon technologies and carbon fixation potential evaluation, carried out the demonstration of mining area ecosystem restoration and carbon fixation technologies, reduced water and soil erosion around mining areas, and increased ecosystem stability and ecological value of desert areas. The project provides a complete technical plan for landform reshaping, soil restructuring, vegetation reconstruction, landscape renewal, and biodiversity reorganization in mining areas.
